SURF PUNKS - HAPPENINGS - OCTOBER 1ST, 2009
INTERVIEW WITH PLASTIC SURF PUNK SIMON ORMEROD
Simon Ormerod fucking shreds. The dude is really chill and super humble and
kindly opened up his pad up on the Gold Coast to the entire Plastic Pile during
last year's Plastic People Hellfire Tour. He's got a hot girlfriend, and two
younger brothers, Alex who rips at taking pictures and his other brother Nick
who also shreds on the boogie. We recently caught up with the Plastic Stain
to see what the hell he's been up to...
Chucky G: Simon brother, what's happening? James Adams says you just got back
from a little photo trip? Where to? Tell us about it.
Simon Ormerod: Yeah we did a cool little mission just recently. Without giving
too much away its north of where I live, it’s a few hours out to sea and
every now and then when the elements come together it can get every bit as good
as indo… but definitely no crowd to deal with haha.

Chucky G: Who surfs better, you or your brother Nick?
Simon: Haha I love it… Ya cunt.. Nick surfs amazing. I’d say all
round he has the edge on me but I’ll still give him a bit of curry from
time to time to keep him honest!
Chucky G: Must be good having your brother Alex shooting you and Nick all the
time?
Simon Ormerod: Yeah it is handy having him there to shoot, but to tell the truth
we find it hard to all get together at the same time to do a trip because we’ve
all got different things going on. He’s such a talented photographer so
I wish we could get together and get the job done more often!

Alex.

Chucky G: Where you been surfing at home? Who's been pushing you in the water?
Simon Ormerod: The reef (cudgen) has had a few good days, and a little wedge
called fingal has been super fun for ages.. There’s also been some good
rampy days out at kingscliff bomby, its like a fun park out there when its good.
Nick is always there pushing me, same with guys like Joe Clarke, Ash Bryant,
Corey McClean and Leify just to name a few.

Epic view.

Chucky G: Where you been hanging at night?
Simon Ormerod: To be honest I haven’t been hitting the town all that much
lately, I’ll have the odd night out in Surfers but it’s a bit of
a sess pit. I’ll hit the casino sometimes too but I never fucking win
anything! I just had my good mates bucks night and it was a messy one! We hired
a big party boat with a dj and dancefloor and all the goodies and then we did
the rounds in Surfers. It was a sick night, we fucked him up pretty good! Haha..
Chucky G: Beer or whiskey?
Simon Ormerod: Beer

Tour last year.

Chucky G: Working on any new video parts?
Simon Ormerod: Yeah just got a new spono with Elit’ bodyboards and they’re
making a dvd, so I plan on being pretty heavily involved with that. I’ve
got some footage from that last little trip and a bit of local stuff, now I
just wanna get some heavy stuff to mix it up.

in New York last month in between his round the world trip to New York, Mexico,
Vegas, and Los Angeles.
Chucky G: What is your favorite shirt in the new Plastic line?
Simon Ormerod: All Woman are Bad, that shirt is amazing! It always gets a double
take! Haha.. Also Dre’s battle of the booze tee is sick. They’re
all killer man, keep the good shit comin!

NEWS - JUNE 24, 2009
INTERVIEW WITH PLASTIC STAIN LEIF EMBERG - ALL
PHOTOS: JAMES ADAMS
CG: Hey Leif, whats the word? What the hell you been up
to?
LE: Hey Chuck! I've just been doing the usual thing over the last few months
lots of surfing, lots of beer, lots of fun really. I just moved out with My
girlfriend and the Bird too(James Adams). Which is cool but ive been living
week to week at the moment which is a different step for me at the moment.
CG: Who have you been shooting with? Working on a new video part or anything?
LE: Well the surf has been pretty amazing here lately. We had nearly 2 months
straight of swell and it got really big here for a few days like 10ft plus which
was good to experience because its pretty rare for these parts. Usually my room
mate has my back for photos, if hes not blind drunk in a pool of his own mess.
Ha nah hes good and he knows how to handle his EOs.
CG: What music have you been clogging your ears with?
LE: Usually something bluesy or rocky. Im always there with the Beatles, Black
Keys, White stripes type of thing. Oh and Simon says get the fuck up.
CG: You should check out The Dead Weather, Jack White's new band. Allison Mosshart
is a smoker. Read anything interesting lately?
LE: It might have been something By Carlos Castenada. Highly recommend him.
CG: Any good parties on the of late?
LE: Of course. It was a friends Bucks party a couple weeks back. It involved
bikes, capes, suits, wizard sticks( cans of beer sticky taped to one another
when finished) a lion suit and a trip down one of the more ritzy and highly
prestigious streets on the gold coast. It then peaked at my unit. 90 more beers
and a stripper. So obviously the carpet didnt fair so well. A few grommies somehow
made there way into the mix aswell. I wont name names for fear of repercussions
on theyre behalf but Mr Tom Rigby seemed to be enjoying himself. After that
it was a black out and I was home 7hrs later. Good fun.
CG: Seen any of the Plastic stains in Oz or on any of your travels of late?
Been surfing much with any of them?
LE: The plastic boys are pretty spread out so it can be hard to catch up but
I do see Simon a bit in the surf and by darkness. We actually showed up to the
latest Riptide party recently sporting the exact same new plastic threads. Lucky
its the best stuff around so it didnt matter.

CG: How are your Empire boards working? Any new sponsors or anything like that?
LE: Empire boards are going great. Can't pick a fault, just shit I can rave
about. So yeah Im happy with them. Apart from that I havent really been chasing
it, so for now its Plastic, Empire and 662 for me.
CG: When the hell are you coming to New York? Its about
time kid. I live down in Chinatown now. Close to
the Plastic studio and all the deadly dives and only 40 minutes on the subway
out to Rockaway Beach, so we can go get some waves too.
LE: Hopefully Ill be there checking out the origins of Plastic by the end of
the year that would be insane. Apart from that at the moment just taking it
as it comes. Something pops up and I have the funds ill jump on it. which it
will. With the some luck though, ill be seeing your mug soon.
Cheers Chuck!
